For Kathleen Wilson, the creative force behind Katy Ka Diddle Hopper,
it all started with a crayon…well actually it was box of 64 glorious
Binney and Smith Crayola© crayons to be exact. The Crayon names
alone like Aquamarine, Burnt Sienna and Cornflower inspired in Kathleen
a love for color and helped nurture her joy of creating.
Kathleen’s passion for the creative led her to pursue a degree in Visual Communications and a career in graphic design. While raising
her children and freelancing, she began to focus her attention on illustrating …specifically illustrating Bible verses, communicating their truth in a delightful and whimsical way.
Her distinctive illustration style might be considered “old school”…primarily using marker and pencils, but she is not shy about showing off her computer savvy. To Kathleen, it is not the tools used in creating art, but it is what is stirring the heart of the artist to create that is most important. Her heart’s desire is that her art would delight and inspire people to know God…as well as to make them smile!
She is regularly asked where the name Katy Ka Diddle Hopper
came from. It was the nickname her father bestowed upon her as
a child and it’s whimsy and fun seemed the perfect name for her
artistic endeavors. Katy Ka Diddle Hopper embodies the carefree
and sweet simplicity of childhood and reminds us how wonderful it
is to stay young at heart.
Kathleen loves a lot of things…top of the list is the Lord, her husband,
three kids (even though they went and grew up on her) and Bailey
her loyal yellow lab. She loves Austin, TX where she lives. She loves
Texas A&M football, breakfast tacos and especially loves the loud and
lengthy dinner table conversations when all her kids are home! She loves
the awesome Texas weather (really she does) and watching all the
amazing birds that visit her bird feeder…simply put, she loves life.
